Dangote gets CBN’s nod to invest $3.9bn outside Nigeria

NIGERIA’s business magnate, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has expressed its willingness to commence the production of cement in Ivory Coast, as he gets the nod of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to invest $3.9 billion outside Nigeria.

Dangote, during an interactive meeting the Ivorien president, Alassane Ouattara had with Nigerian businessmen in Abuja, said investment outside Nigeria would boost the foreign earnings of the country, through repatriation of proceeds.

“Actually we are big in Nigeria and outside. We have invested in cement factories outside Nigeria and we have got the approval of the CBN to invest about $3.9 billion outside Nigeria,” he said.

Dangote said his company would have a discussion with the Ivory Coast minister of trade and see how “we can go back there to commence the process of building cement factory in the country.”

The business mogul said the group would also look at other areas of investment in Ivory Coast, as French investors had left the country.

In his address, President Ouattara called on Nigerian businessmen to come and invest in his country, stressing that the just-ended post-election crisis had created business opportunities for the would-be investors.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the role he played during the crisis, adding that Nigerians had played a good role and must come to reap the benefits, by investing in all sectors now opened in the country.
