Manufacturer of optical fiber cables, AFL is providing fiber-optic equipment and cable to the open access optical fiber network in Nigeria. The National Broadband Carrier Network Project comprises 14,000 km of optical fiber network connected via the regional fiber-optic network owners to allow sophisticated communications to all the areas in the country.

Dangote Industries, owner of the fiber-optic network, is deploying more than 3,000 km of optical fiber cable provided by AFL to the backbone network. Dancom Technologies operates the fiber-optic backbone network, which will be directly interconnected with Phase3 Telecom. The construction of the fiber-optic network includes the SkyWrap solution, which is an optical fiber cable applied helically to the existing phase or ground conductors by utilizing special installation devices.

AFL’s Managing Director in Europe, Paul Thompson stated that the company is honored to take part in this crucial project that would enhance the lives of the Nigerian citizens. He added that SkyWrap was an ideal solution because of the country’s wetlands and adverse terrains.

Dancom’s Managing Director, Boye Olusanya mentioned that the SkyWrap solution allowed the first stage of installation at a rate of between 5 and 9 km every day. Dangote’s Chief Executive Officer, Aliko Dangote added that the SkyWrap technology offers reliable and secure data services to various areas of Nigeria where quality and capacity of network services are restricted.
