Lagos — President and Chief Executive, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, had been honoured with an award by Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI), as the leading provider of employment in the Nigerian construction industry.
Presenting the award at the Annual General Meeting of the Federation, FOCI President, Mobolaji Williams, commended the entrepreneurial spirit and patriotic zeal that Dangote exhibits in his various businesses, especially in the construction industry.
He enjoined other well placed Nigerians to invest massively in the local economy, to contribute towards growing the Gross Domestic Product and helping in the fight against poverty and unemployment.
In his remarks, Dangote, represented by Executive Director, Dangote Cement, Mr Ekanem Etim, thanked FOCI for the recognition, and reiterated his total commitment to the growth and advancement of the Nigerian economy, adding that the sure way to building a strong economy is by encouraging local investment through provision of basic infrastructure and other incentives.

He attributed the successes the Dangote Group has recorded so far, to the resourcefulness and unwavering commitment of the staff. He said, "this honour really belongs to thousands of men and women who work tirelessly everyday to make sure that we achieve our set objectives. The ultimate objective is to contribute significantly to on-going efforts to make Nigeria an African economic success story. We are happy that our modest contribution, so far, has been deemed worthy of recognition by the umbrella body of the construction industry.
"We are encouraged by this recognition, and will continue to partner with the Nigerian government to achieve its key developmental goals, especially in the construction sub-sector of the economy."
