Helen Prest Ajayi hosts a grand soiree as she celebrates her 50th birthday

On Saturday 17th October 2009, Former Miss Nigeria – Helen Prest-Ajayi celebrated her 50th birthday by hosting a grand party at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. Wife, mother, lawyer, author, entrepreneur and beauty queen – those are some of the titles associated with Helen so it was no surprise that the event was graced by a diverse range of guests. From corporate titans like Aliko Dangote to fellow beauty queen Nike Oshinowo-Soleye to Nollywood star Rita Dominic. It was a festive and glam night! We have to say you look fab at 50! Helen was surrounded by lots of friends on her special day but we all know that family comes first. Her husband, Dr Ajayi as well as her children, mother and siblings were there to celebrate her big day. Photos below.

It seems like the event was a perfect date night for lots of couples including Eyimofe and Dorothy Atake;Tony and Dr. Awele Elumelu and many more
Celebs were not left out of the festivities. Talk Show Hosts Funmi Iyanda and Mo Abudu both attended looking fab in black, Designers – Remi Lagos, Frank Osodi and Ade Bakare also attended, actressesRita Dominic and Kate Henshaw-Nuttall were there well. Crooner Wande Coal performed and AYthe comedian MCd.
Several business titans and accomplished individuals in the medical field (the celebrants husband is a doctor) also graced the event including Aliko Dangote of Dangote, Stella Okoli of Emzor, Dr. Sunny Kuku and many others.
The Lagos social establishment were there to celebrate this milestone with Helen. Nike Osinowo-Soleye was there – making her first public appearance in a while, Nkiru Anumudu, Deola Bali, Vivian Chiologi,Dr. Doyin Abiola, Abah Folawiyo were also at the event to celebrate with their friend.
The fashion stakes were raised high at the event. Female guests looked elegant in their cocktail and evening dresses while the men looked good in their suits. ThisDay Style Editor – Ruth Osime rocked a runway inspired look in her gold dress with flower applique and lace trimmings from Lanre DaSilva Ajayi’s Golden Girl collection. Hauwa Mukan rocked an Ituen Basi dress from the very popular Ankara and Beads collection while Nkiru Anumudu made a style statement in the Dolce and Gabbana Marilyn Puff Sleeve Mikado dress from their Fall/Winter 2009 collection. Her black headband, statement necklace, gold cuff and snakeskin Lulu Guinness ‘lips’quilted clutch seal the bold look.

I do not know what you guys are smoking…Nkiru’s accessories did WHAT? They simply killed the outfit. ONE SHOULD NEVER PAIR a black and white dress with GOLD…IT IS A FASHION NO-NO that is why the stylist at the Dolcce and Gabbana show paired the dress with a rhinestone and silver necklace. And as if the bold necklace was not enough…SHE ADDS the cuff and the RED Lulu Guinness clutch..I AM DIEING (opposite of R. Zoe’s def of “I DIE”) of laughter.. THEN THE HEAD BAND..AND THAT HAIR?? AND MAKE-UP…I am sure she has money…but I cannot blame the electricity situation in our dearest country has made our lovely citizens fashion victims…the lighting in her house was not BRIGHT enough to SCREAM…HALLOWEEN is STILL A WEEK AWAY!!

Aunt Helen–I wish you all the best in life.You are not only a stunningly beautiful woman on the outside,but your reputation also speaks volumes about the type of wonderful,humble,loving,kind,caring,down to earth woman that you are.You have survived situations that would make other women break and retreat,YET you faced all situations and came out on top bigger and stronger.
For me,your niece from your first marriage,to have written this piece shows the world that you are indeed a woman filled with light and no ounce of bitterness of things gone past.You still stay the same sweet aunt helen i have always known,and you never let any situation between you and uncle jimi affect how you always treat us.
ALL your children are indeed lucky to be born to such a wonderful woman as you are.And i am happy that they are growing up to be such grounded and beautiful children who never take anything for granted.
I thank God for your life aunty Helen.Dr.A,has done a wonderful job of even making you radiate more love.

I will never be a fan of Nkiru Anumundu’s dressing (i find them too loud and that is my personal opinion) but one thing i like about her is that she does not give a hoot about laid down rules and does her stuff with loads of confidence.

As for never pairing black and white with gold, after 10 years in the industry that is the first time Im hearing that. If anything the proportions of the necklace were off making it clash with the bold print but its nothing to start getting all CAPITAL LETTERS about!
Thank you for a well thought out opinion…only if Nigerians could learn to give their opinions without having to resort to insults. I agree she carries it with confidence, but there are too many things going on with er outfit. I have not finished looking at the head band then there is the makeup then I am distracted with the bag, oops there is also the necklace….there is a reason why Jackie O and Michelle O..among others are fashion icons…HELL even the celebrant and Nike O are fashion icons because their style is graceful and not forced. Look at Nike and Funmi Iyanda…i am not against Nkiru’s sense of style…just how she tends to express it…she is simply telling us she can afford expensive designer clothes and she has gold jewelry but she is not and never has been able to express a “style” even if it is borrowed.

Helen looks beautiful and fabulous. I love to see couples, it was a whole lot of them. Skin is glowing, she’s smiling, and looks like she’s happy to be 50, that’s what I’m talking about. Women, don’t be scared to get old, just take good care of yourself and you will be fine. American women, are always too scared to even turn 40, they will do anything do look 15, wear their daughter’s clothes, liposuction, botox, and upon that they look like crap. Just allow yourself to age gracefully and naturally, and you will be fine.
